There are superfoods that are known to fight cancer. Knowing how to eat to avoid cancer is key to prevention. Here are eight foods that are known to have cancer-fighting properties.
Coconut
Coconut is full of MCTs (medium chain fatty acids). These are good fats that are easy to metabolize. It has lauric acid with is antimicrobal and antiviral. Research on Pacific Islanders who do not have a Western diet but one rich in coconut oil shows that colon cancer is virtually non-existent. Don’t let widely-held beliefs about coconut oil being unhealthy fool you – it is a superfood.
A Swedish study showed that consuming bananas was linked to a 50-60% reduction in the risk for developing kidney cancer. The glycemic load of bananas is only 12. It’s a cleansing fruit. They are also a potent source of the good cleansing bacteria we all need in our gut.
Beans
The ultimate blood-sugar regulator. Beans are also full of phytochemicals that protect our cells from the genetic damages that lead to cancer. They even inhibit cancer cell reproduction and slow the growth of tumors. Men who consume the most beans have a whopping 38% lower risk of prostate cancer than men who don’t!
Goji Berries
Expensive but delicious. These little berries are well worth the price as an alternative breast cancer treatment. It doesn’t cure cancer – that is complete nonsense. What it does do is produce a positive effect on the immune system and can protect cells against DNA damage while reducing the weight of tumors.
Grapefruit
If you smoke, you should be eating grapefruit. Really. Researchers at the University of Hawaii found that participants who drank three 6-ounce glasses of grapefruit juice per day reduced the activity of a liver enzyme called CYP1A2. This is the enzyme thought to activate the cancer causing chemicals in tobacco. Also, the limonoids in grapefruit inhibit the development of breast cancer. Red grapefruits help to reduce the risk of prostate cancer due to the lycopene found in it.
Eggs
For a long time eggs got a bad reputation, but they are actually nature’s perfect food. Eggs are a terrific source of choline, which is necessary for brain function and cardiovascular health.
They also may protect both men and women from breast cancer. Eggs contain the important cancer-fighting mineral selenium. One study showed that women who ate the six eggs per week(in addition to high amounts of fruits and vegetables) lowered their risk of breast cancer by 44%.
Lemons
Lemons have chemicals called limonoids and compounds called limonene in them. Both of these have strong anti-cancer properties. About all you need is 1 tablespoon every week to make a statistically significant difference.
Cabbage
There are phytochemicals in cabbage called indoles. Indoles will change estrogen metabolism which is likely to reduce the risk of cancer. Sauerkraut (fermented cabbage) contains isothiocyanates, which acutally prevent the growth of cancers. They do this by killing damaging free radicals and fight carcinogens.
