Drug Companies Running Scared About Alternative Therapies

I have never been one to believe in conspiracy theories but… after reading in my weekend newspaper today (The Courier Mail June 21-22nd) about supposed "Findings" of research conducted in the UK on Alternative Health Treatments I just had to stop and think… was I living on a different planet?

Have you ever wondered why Drug Companies hate alternative treatments so much?

According to  research conducted by British author, Rose Shapiro, in her "How Alternative Medicine Makes Fools Of Us All" alternative treatments are bascially a rip off. Or are they…?

According to Shapiro her 'research' concludes:

Accupuncture
- is a bogus treatment! I wonder if she has been to China? I have 8 times now. In China people have operations using accupuncture to block the pain because it is safer than using drugs to knock you out. Try telling a woman having a ceasarean section using just accupuncture that he lack of pain is bogus!

Chiropractic – has NO Evidence to prove spinal manipulation offers ANY benefits whatsoever! Can you believe such astounding ignorance actually makes it into print? One has to conclude that Shapiro is either living in an alternative universe or has never bothered to read of the millions of people worldwide that have found  pain relief after even one adjustment. Or that she is in the hip pocket of the 'health' journals she writes for.

Naturopathy - Offers some lifestyle benefits but should not be seen as an alternative to conventional medicine. (That often just gives you more drugs to treat your symptoms and then more drugs to treat the symptoms of the first lot of drugs???"

Massage – 'Probably' effective for some conditions. (she fails to mention which conditions!)

Traditional Chinese Medicine – Here Shapiro takes aarrogance and stupidity to staggering new heights when she begrudgingly admits that Chinese medicine 'may be effective for some conditions'

If you will indulge me a moment of personal observation seems warranted.  Each time I have been to China one thing has made a deep and lasting impression on me.

That is the multitudes of 70 – 80 and even  90 year old people you see in almost every Chinese city park early in the morning doing their Qi Gong and Tai Chi exercises.

I have many, many Chinese friends now and without exception their health and energy levels leave the average westerner for dead. When I ask them what they prefer when they get sick they always say "Traditional Chinese Medicine because it treats the problem not just the symptoms"

The Chinese also know the value of food in healing the body. They have done for thousands of years. Shapiro writes of Chinese medicine "We hear a lot about it but what do we know of it's history and success?"  Obviously SHE knows next to nothing about it.

My only conclusion reading Shapiro's pontificating rambles is that she must, like the big drug companies, be running scared at the multitudes of people that are turning to alternative therapies because in many cases they work and are much less expensive and a lot less dangerous than the drug company sponsored alternatives.

Lets just take Acid Reflux for an example.  The average medical response is to give you a dangerous cocktail of drugs whilst the average Naturopath will advice a lifesytle change.

It doesn't take an Einstein to see which approach the Drug Companies would prefer that you take.  really makes you stop and wonder about the motives of someone like Shapiro

In closing, what do we know about Shapiro?  Only that she has NO medical qualifications whatsoever and that her only public qualifications are those of a paid writer for 'Health' Journals.

I have placed a video below by my good friend, Board Certified and Qualified medical Doctor, Scott Saunders MD
